The Rain-Resilient Showdown at Ledgeview: A Tale of Triumph and Turbulence

Amidst a season that seemed cursed with rainy Saturdays, a dedicated group of golfers gathered at Ledgeview, braving the elements yet again. The hills, tight fairways, and challenging holes of Ledgeview awaited, with rain relentlessly drenching the course as the first group teed off. But fate had a surprise in store.

As if by magic, the rain ceased, the clouds parted, and blue skies emerged. The sun broke through, transforming the soggy battleground into a radiant arena. Jackets were flung aside as players basked in the unexpected warmth, ready to take on Ledgeview without Mother Nature's interference.

Despite the improved weather, Ledgeview held its ground, challenging the golfers at every turn. The scores were tight, with most of the field carding a net in the mid-seventies—a marked improvement over previous weeks. In the Player’s Division, Tony Izzo made his presence felt in his second appearance in the Player’s Division, clinching his second win with a net 74. Tony’s consistency in the Player’s Division is becoming a force to reckon with. Good thing he’s back in the Masters.

On the Master’s Division side, Bob Wagner continued his reign of dominance. Carding a net 71, Bob secured his third win of the season, claiming victory in half of the year’s tournaments so far. His performance has been nothing short of spectacular—Bob is on fire!

But the real story of the day unfolded around the coveted deuce pot. With last week’s pot carried over, a substantial $80 was up for grabs. Corey Garrett made an early claim with a deuce on the first par 3. As the round progressed, whispers spread that Corey was silently hoping his fellow golfers would miss their deuce putts. Whether true or not, that’s precisely what happened. Corey’s solitary deuce earned him the entire pot, making him the day’s big money winner.

As the round concluded, golfers gathered on the patio, enjoying beverages under the now clear sky. It was a perfect ending to a day that began with gloom and transformed into a sunlit triumph. All who braved the initial downpour felt rewarded not just by the weather’s turnaround but by the camaraderie and competition that defined the day.

The Ledgeview showdown will be remembered not just for the weather's dramatic shift but for the tales of tenacity and triumph. With every Saturday promising new surprises, the season continues to unfold with excitement and unpredictability.

The Westwood Plateau Showdown: Where Golf and Wilderness Collide

After the unexpected cancellation of Major #1 at The Hills, the anticipation for Major #2 reached a fever pitch. The prestigious Westwood Plateau Golf & Country Club, known for its unforgiving terrain and now its resident bears, became the stage for this thrilling saga.

The tournament day dawned with a fleeting promise of clear skies, a mere tease amidst the week's relentless downpour. But as the heavens once again opened up, the rain refused to relent, transforming the already treacherous course into a veritable quagmire. At Westwood Plateau, errant balls aren't just lost—they're offered up to the golf gods. This year, the course added a new challenge: bears. Not the benign, berry-eating kind spotted from afar, but stealthy predators lurking in the woods, ready to pounce on unsuspecting golf carts. Two members had their bags damaged or stolen, and the encounters left the group visibly shaken. The course seemed to relish its victories as scores soared sky-high.

Amidst the chaos, newcomer Mike Myers made a splashy debut. The best non-Callaway Player’s Division score was a net 79, a score that, under normal circumstances, might raise eyebrows. But this day, under the drenching rain and the eyes of the lurking bears, it was a testament to resilience. Mike’s Callaway-adjusted score of net 74 clinched him the win. Talk about a red carpet entrance! Mike, we’ll be expecting your thank-you note.

The Master’s Division saw a solitary beacon of hope in Matt Fulton. With a dazzling net 70, Matt not only held his own but also etched his name in the club’s annals with an eagle on the Par 5 14th Hole. The first eagle of the year—a feat as rare as sunshine in the forecast. Hats off to you, Matt. That’s a masterclass in golf.

On the flip side, history was made in another, less celebrated way. For the first time this year, no one managed to sink a Deuce, leaving the $40 Deuce pot untouched. This bounty will now roll over to next week’s showdown at Ledgeview, where the stakes—and the excitement—will be even higher.

In the end, Westwood Plateau, with its treacherous terrain and unexpected hazards, proved once again why it's one of the toughest courses around. The rain, the wilderness, and the sheer challenge of the course tested every golfer’s mettle. But it also set the stage for moments of triumph and stories that will be recounted for years to come. Until next week at Ledgeview, golfers will be mulling over their strategies and hoping for friendlier skies.
